dRaum by syde.ch - building physics simulation

The optimisation of energy and power consumption of conditioned buildings has gained an ever in-creasing attention over time. Relevant design parameters are not delimited only to the source, the gen-eration, the delivery of heat and cooling energy, which can be controlled by building technology engi-neers, but extend also to the buildings architecture. The choice and arrangement of supporting struc-tures, transparent bodies and sun protective measures are already defined in the early architectonic design phases.
In order to find solutions for the human wellbeing in rooms and the reduction of energy losses, it's necessary to integrate modelling systems that approach the developing object as closely as possible. Due to limited assets of specifications at early planning phases, the application of building simulators results to have implementative difficulties and is cost-intensive. A simplified building model, which takes into consideration the most important buildings parameters, was developed by Prof. Dr. Bruno Keller.
The aim of this master thesis is the analysis of this simple building model and the development of a tool capable to simulate and describing the unsteady behaviour in a building in a simplified way. Since simulations are very complex and composed from highly interlaced parameters, the influence of each individual parameter is difficult to estimate. For this reason and to consent a quick inspection of parameters, the simulation speed plays a central role.
dRaum is a tool for assessing the behaviour of temperature, humidity and the carbon dioxide content in a room.
this web-based-application is a user frendly tool that offers great potential as a practice oriented instrument for early planning phases of rooms.
